Northern Michigan's premiere project-based learning public school is proud to offer a two-day intensive observational workshop for educators throughout the midwest and Canada on the fundamentals of PBL instruction, planning and administration.  Join us this fall on the Grand Traverse Commons in beautiful Traverse City for a comprehensive live overview of PBL.  Classroom and small group observations will be augmented by Q&A with staff, administration and students.  Your investment in time will be rewarded with a firsthand understanding of how to successfully launch and sustain project-based instruction in your school or organization.

Who Should Attend?

The Greenspire PBL Academy is designed for K-12 classroom teachers, teaching coaches, building administrators, career-technical instructors, program directors, and even professional tutors.

The Conference

The Greenspire PBL Academy will span two days and include diverse break-out sessions covering each aspect of PBL design, implementation, assessment and fine-tuning.  Participants will also have numerous opportunities to observe project-based learning in action, interact with students and other educators and begin lending thought to the design of a project-based unit for delivery in their home schools.

Keynote to Remember:  Ben Whiting

We are thrilled to kick-off the Greenspire PBL Academy with a keynote from Ben Whiting - the most unique address you will likely ever hear at an educational conference.  Ben, an accomplished playwright, actor and magician, will very much engage us to examine our profession and mission from a unique perspective.  Learn more about Ben's work here and be ready for an experience and insights to remember!

Conference Goals

By the conclusion of the Academy, participants will have mastery over the following:

  • What is project-based learning?

  • How are project-based learning units and lessons designed?

  • What resources are needed for project-based learning?

  • How do we integrate PBL with mandated content standards?

  • How do we assess student progress via PBL?

  • What barriers exist when transitioning to PBL and how do we surmount them?
