I am one of those lucky people who has always known what it is I am meant to do in life. I was raised in a family of educators, developing a passion for learning at a very young age. I enjoyed helping my dad prepare his classroom for a new school year and loved volunteering with my mom at the Adult Work Center and with Special Olympics. My sister, who has Down Syndrome, showed me that every child is unique and special. She taught me that every student learns in his/her own way, and that the true joy in teaching is to discover how a child learns and to tap into those strengths, allowing the student to blossom into the person that he/she is meant to be.
Growing up in Traverse City, my family spent a great deal of time outdoors. I started young walking and biking miles, exploring the many beautiful secrets of Northern Michigan. I would spend my Saturdays helping my mom weed her gardens and find rocks to line them. My parents instilled within me a love of the outdoors and now I enjoy taking my 6 year old son on many of the same adventures. We enjoy swimming and hiking with our dog, Kasie, kayaking on the many beautiful rivers in the area, biking around town and to the library, camping at many of the local family friendly festivals, and working in our garden.
I graduated from Central Michigan University with degrees in both special education and math. I am currently finishing a master's in counseling through Western Michigan University.
I am going into my fifth year at Greenspire and can say that I have found a home in our school. I look forward to another amazing school year!
